Ever since they shocked New Zealand in the opening match of the cricket Under-19 World Cup at Fatullah on Thursday, the Nepalese team has been flooded with congratulatory phone calls. “Calls are coming from everywhere. Even the Prime Minister (K P Sharma Oli) called, wishing us luck for tomorrow’s match,” says Aarif Sheikh, the team’s soft-spoken vice-captain. On Saturday, Nepal play Ireland, a team they have dominated lately. And if they pull off another victory, they will all but advance to the quarterfinals, which would be their best performance since they lifted the Plate (second tier) trophy in 2006. That, for Nepal, would complete a story of triumph after twin disasters — one natural, the other man-made. Among the worst-hit by the earthquake last April was Nepal’s main cricketing facility, Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground. “The new indoor nets facility was destroyed,” says Sheikh, adding that the senior team had to go to Dharamsala in June to prepare for the World T20 qualifiers. Soon, the country faced another setback — an economic blockade that stopped the flow of essential goods, including fuel, from India following protests over Nepal’s new constitution by the Madhesis. “Diesel was selling at 450-500 rupees a litre (roughly Rs 300). Even at that price, it was hard to procure,” says a source in the Nepalese cricket board, who did not wish to be named. The cascading effect on life took a toll on cricket as well. “We had a bowling machine, but couldn’t use it since it needed diesel to run,” he says. And, it became hard to procure basic equipment, even cricket balls, he adds. “A single practice session required a lot of cricket balls, and we were running out. Those available in the markets came at a very high price. So whenever any Nepal cricket official would visit Delhi, he would bring back a box full of balls. That’s how we managed,” says the source.

Saturday Fasting Dedicated To Hindu God Shani and Hanuman Talk about Shani or Sani to a Hindu and the first re action will be fear and then the mentioning of ill effects and troubles. Shani is dreaded by Hindus, especially by those who believe in astrology. Many people observe an Upvaas or fast to avoid the adversities and misfortunes on Shanivar or Saturday. It is believed that those who have the blessing of Lord Hanuman are protected from the wrath of Shani. Therefore many people make it a point to worship Hanuman at home or in temples. Food prepared usually consis ts of sesame til or black gram or any other black colored food item. Salt is avoided by many on the day.

Aditya Dahal's Prediction towards Nepal India U19 Cricket MatchLegspinner Sandeep Lamichhane's 5 for 27, which included a hat-trick, set up Nepal Under-19s' eight-wicket win over Ireland Under-19s, taking the side into the quarter-finals.
Ireland opted to bat first and found their openers back in the pavilion by the 18th over with the score at 42 for 2. Lamichhane then stepped up to carve out the middle order. He dismissed Gary McClintock in his first spell before returning to take a hat-trick in the 32nd over. Lorcan Tucker was caught out at midwicket off the fourth ball of the over; Lamichhane then had Adam Dennison caught behind and bowled Fiachra Tucker for a duck to complete his hat-trick. He took the wicket of William McClintock in his next over to complete his five-for reducing Ireland to a hapless 83 for 7. Harry Tector's unbeaten 30 pushed the Ireland score past 100 to a total of 131 for 9. Lamichhane's feat was the 12th instance of a hat-trick in Under-19 ODIs and fifth in the Under-19 World Cup.
Nepal needed 25.3 overs to wrap up the chase. They lost opener Sandeep Sunar off the first ball of the innings. Yogendra Singh Karki's unbeaten 61 and his unbroken, 77-run partnership for the third wicket with Aarif Sheikh sealed the win.
India Under-19s joined Nepal in the quarter-finals after a comprehensive 120-run win over New Zealand Under-19s in Mirpur. Fast bowler Avesh Khan made the key strikes for India, picking up the first four wickets to leave New Zealand 16 for 4 chasing 259. There was no way back for New Zealand, and they were eventually bowled out as early as the 32nd over, with left-arm spinner Mahipal Lomror grabbing a five-wicket haul. Lomror also contributed a handy 45 with the bat.
Sent in to bat, India slipped to 19 for 2 before Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan put them back on track with an 89-run stand for the third wicket. Pant made 57 off 83 balls, and Sarfaraz was beginning to look dangerous with a series of boundaries all around the ground when he fell for 74 (80b, 9x4) in the 34th over, leaving India 156 for 4. It was 165 for 5 soon after, but sensible batting from Armaan Jaffer (46) and Lomror steered India to a total of 258 for 8.

An athlete, Bhagwati Devi, today works as a labourer
Gold dots the fields of Kakar Khateri in Uttarakhand’s Champawat district, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. There are specks of green as well, but when the wheat crop matures in a few days, the terraced fields of this region will resemble a vast sheet of gold.I can’t explain how beautiful it is. It is a sight I never tire of. It washes away all my exhaustion,” says Chandrakala Tamta, a 30-year-old villager, standing at a point overlooking the village’s fields. Tamta’s delight comes not merely from the scenery. It comes out of a sense of satisfaction at seeing the payback from the days of back-breaking work that she put into cultivating the crop
Tamta and many other women like her share in the joy of a bountiful harvest in Uttarakhand, where women shoulder the bulk of the responsibility for cultivation. Women perform all the farming tasks here, save for sowing and ploughing.
“From chopping wood for firewood to fodder collection for cattle to irrigation, laying of manure or reaping or any form of tillage, everything is done by us,” she says. “Everything is done by hand, there are no machines. In Uttarakhand, the woman is the machine,” she says.
Farming in the hill state has always been the preserve of women. In fact, it was women who were at the forefront of the famous Chipko (hug the trees) movement in the 1970s to protest against extensive deforestation that threatened to wreck the ecological balance of the region.

Induction cooking heats a cooking vessel by magnetic induction, instead of by thermal conduction from a flame, or an electrical heating element. Because inductive heating directly heats the vessel, very rapid increases in temperature can be achieved. In an induction cooker, a coil of copper wire is placed under the cooking pot and an alternating electric current is passed through it. The resulting oscillating magnetic field induces a magnetic flux which repeatedly magnetises the pot, treating it like the lossy magnetic core of a transformer. This produces large eddy currents in the pot, which because of the resistance of the pot, heats it.
In this video we can see some beautiful Dance performance done by some very talanted dancers in Americas Got Talent. Every person has their own capability and some different skills, in this video we can see some very skill full dancers performing in the stage. Most of his time on his dirt jump bike since 2007. Besides contests Patrick is known for his role in several dirt jump shows and bike movies like “Action Heroes”.It´s maybe not my “own“ spot, it´s more the spot for all the locals here in my hometown. Without all these guys there would be maybe only a few jumps. But with their help it has grown over the last year and today we can say we have one of the biggest and best dirt jump spots in Germany. The Park has different lines for all riding levels. One for beginners with tables, waves and berms. A smaller line with a 6 meter step-up trick jump at the end and on big line with a 8 m boner log, followed by a berm, two jumps 8 meters and 6 meters and a quarter at the end.Yeah, that’s sadly true. A nine years old kid was playing with fire and it got out of control. The police can´t do anything because he is still a child and so we have to wait for answers from an insurance company. That´s right. Last week I signed the contract and I am so damn stoked about that. Definitely, it was always a dream of mine. Maybe every rider dreams about that. Its simply amazing to have such a brand behind me now and I´m looking forward to working with them the upcoming season and hopefully as long as I can.Watch the full video for the Update.

Earlier four terrorists were arrested who were planning to attack in Ardh Kumbh mela of Haridwar.A new ISIS video shows the 9 men who carried out the dastardly terrorist attack on Paris in November. On Sunday a new video released by Daesh claims to show the nine terrorists responsible for the November 13th attack that killed 130 people in Paris spending time in Iraq and Syria. The video - which is similar to previous ISIS propaganda tapes - shows the assailants - including Bilal Hadfi, Samy Amimour and ringleader Abdelhamid Abaaoud - carrying out beheadings and participating in target practice. Nepal Foreign Employment Representative Agent Association on Sunday demanded action against foreign employment companies fleecing migrant workers. They called for scrapping permission of the companies found to have violated agreement on specification of work and charging money three fold more than the government’s official stipulation particularly from workers seeking employment in Malaysia and the Middle East. Association Chairman Khadga Bahadur Shrestha in a press conference spoke of the pain inflicted on both migrant workers and representatives due to the increasing trend of institutional scam while calling on the law enforcement bodies to be more sensitive towards the issue. Shrestha said the association could only fulfill a role of a liaison agent to establish contact between the migrant workers and the manpower companies. He further insisted the manpower companies must be accountable for providing the stipulated money and work, along with arranging for labour permit and travel route for the destination country.
Scratch that, there’s now a design for a plane that could cruise from London to New York in 11 minutes, traveling at Mach 24 — that’s 12 times faster than the Concorde!Charles Bombardier, the industrial designer who came up with both designs, has dubbed this newest concept the Antipode, which he conceived in collaboration with Lunatic Koncepts founder Abhishek Roy.In theory, it could carry up to ten passengers up to 12,430 miles in under an hour.Did you just daze out? Bear with us a little while longer while we explain the tech that would get this craft flying. The Antipode’s wings would be fitted with rocket boosters that would propel the aircraft to 40,000 feet, and enable it to reach Mach 5.Like the Skreemr, the plane would be powered by a scramjet engine.Unlike conventional jet engines, scramjet engines have virtually no moving parts. And unlike rockets, scramjet engines would burn oxygen from the atmosphere instead of having to carry heavy tanks full of oxygen. Now, the Skreemr concept got some flack for the challenges presented using some of the same technology.Objects traveling past Mach 5 can reach upwards of 980 C (1800 F), and there is a limit to the type of materials that can withstand those kinds of temperatures. The sonic boom is also all but guaranteed when an object breaks the sound barrier, and is a menace in urban areas. However, Bombardier believes he may have found a solution to both issues. After the Skreemr concept made the rounds, Bombardier was contacted by Joseph Hazeltine, an engineer at Wyle, which provides technical support to both NASA and the U.S. Department of Defence.

Man jumps off from a hot air balloon without parachute
Finnish stuntman Antte Pendikainen – crazy name, crazy guy – has jumped out of a hot air balloon without a parachute.Pendikainen has made his name with a series of increasingly bonkers stunts including jumping off a 900ft drop in a snow mobile – but this may well be his best. We don’t want to spoil anything – but he DOES live, and not by chasing after the parachute he throws out at the start.Fearless stuntman Antti Pendikainen took on the incredibly brave – or stupid – challenge in southern Finland,13,000ft (4,000 metres) above the ground. The death-defying stunt was executed at a dizzying altitude high above the clouds, as Antti threw his parachute over the side of the balloon before jumping out himself. On the way down he hitches a mid-air lift with a pal.Antti, 25 and from from Finland, said: “I’ve always wanted to jump without a parachute, and now I’ve done it.”

Nepal has been a net exporter of human capital. Forced to migrate due to hardships such as exploitation, indebtedness, falling agricultural productivity, and lack of jobs at home, Nepalis have traditionally sought greener pastures abroad. Migration has been a safety valve that has let rulers in Kathmandu off the hook for their spectacular and unparalleled failure over the years in offering gainful employment at home for its citizens.
Such is the desperation that drives Nepalis to migrate, that the exodus has historically been seen as a given. The despair also partly explains the lack of outrage in Nepal about the export of our young men and women. The recruitment of the citizens of one country to fight and die for another is incongruous in this day and age, yet hiring mercenaries hardly raises an eyebrow in Nepal.
The most alarming aspect about the trafficking of young Nepali women to brothels in India is not just the absence of any political will to stop it, but that the very communities from which the girls are taken tolerate this sexual slavery. Today, traffickers have moved on to duping and cheating young Nepali women in working as household help, and in this paper we have provided regular coverage of the horrendous exploitation and abuse they suffer at the hands of Nepali middlemen and their employers, particularly in the Gulf.
Contrary to conventional wisdom, poverty alone is not the primary driving force behind migration. The push factors of this mass exodus are the structural exclusion of a large section of the population, entrenched social injustice, weak governance and the ingrained neglect and apathy towards the welfare of its citizens. The districts from where there is the most out-migration are not the poorest: many who live in abject poverty simply can’t afford to migrate, because they don’t have the cash savings to pay middlemen fees and travel costs.

Archana Paneru’s latest music video 2016 || Behind the scene of Nepali Lok song Aicho Paicho || Video
As the proverb goes, ‘kaam painas buhari gundruk ma istri laga….’, having no work to do this weekend I decided to compile my favorite list of models acting in nepali music video of this year. This is just my personal list of favorites which may not be in accordance with many.
So here below goes my list:
10. Suzta Shrestha
She is the girl next door type, the girl you feel like you have seen everyday. She is more famous as a host for the program named ‘Rock with Starz’ in Nepal 1. A very talented presenter and a host, now also a model is in my favourite no. 10.
09. [Unknown] from Bujhideuna – Arluv Gurung
How often do you cast a cute girl in a music video and don’t mention her name? With that cute and innocent looks, she is my favourite no 9.
08. Hema Shrestha
Looking extremely beautiful in the music video ‘banma fulyo ful…’, she was once my favourite. After a long gap, got to see her new video, ‘chaina timi bahek – Rajesh Payal Rai’. With the awful song and lyrics by Rajesh Payal Rai, it is only Hema Shrestha who makes the video worth watching. Cute as always, she is my favourite no. 08.
07. Poonam Gautam from Muskan – Hemant Rana
This music video is sure to make you smile at one point when she is caught searching for the guy and the way she smirks. Hemant Rana, fondly called Kailash Kher of Nepal has surely casted a beautiful girl in this music video. Since I could realte her face to a girl I knew, she is my favourite no. 07.
06. Alka Rai from Pagal Premi – Karan Rai
Though you can’t understand what happens at the end of the music video, and also the voice of the singer is not something that would soothe you, again the only thing worth watching is the model. With the typical rai looks, she is my favourite no. 06.
05 – Rubyna from Man Rupa – Khagendra Sahi
Having seen in only one music video so far, Rubyna (last name unknown as per the video) has the charm and expressions that have put her in no. 05 of my favourite list.
04. Sandhya KC from Chiyai Hera – Bymol Magar
Sometimes it is the song that makes the model look beautiful. Though she has not much to do in this video but the music compelled me to watch it multiple times and gradually she also became my favourite. I only wish she had more part to play in the video which would showcase her acting skills as well. Currently, she is no. 04 on my list.
03 – Namrata Shrestha
How can someone compile a list of top models of Nepal and not mention Namrata Shrestha? She had done some kind of spell on me on her very first music video I watched, ‘komal tyo timro badan ma – sabin rai’. Surrounded by some conroversies in the past, she has risen above all and has become no. 1 actress in kollywood. Since she is more often seen in movies rather than music videos, she is my favourite no. 3.
02 – [Unknown] from Kina Timi – Sonam Pakhrin
Believe me if I put someone in the list above Namrata Shrestha then she must be really beautiful. Its unfortunate that I dont know the name of the girl who is on no. 2 of my list.
In this music video the other thing you will notice apart from Sonam Pakhrin’s style of singing by tilting towards right, is the model. You wont be able to take your eyes off from her; while she is sad during the entire video and noone knows why. I guess its because Sonam Pakhrin forgot to mention her name in the video. 😛
01 – Prakriti Shrestha
One girl who has managed to grab the eyeball of all the Nepalese across the world is Prakriti Shrestha. If someone doesn’t recognize her then either he didn’t watch a single nepali music video this year or he is only following Yo Yo Honey Singh. Its because she is there in almost 50% of all nepali music video released this year. The only thing that I feel sorry for myself is that she got married too this same year….. breaking the hearts of thousands of boys. She tops the list with her amazing expressions and looks.
Note: Anyone who knows the name of any models above, whom I haven’t been able to recognize; they can help me by mentioning in the comment section. And also if I have unknowingly missed some models who deserve to be on the list can also be mentioned.

The U.S. Army general picked to lead U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan warns the security situation there is deteriorating despite a valiant effort by Afghan forces.Lieutenant-General John “Mick” Nicholson told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that terror groups like Islamic State and al-Qaida continue to see Afghanistan as an attractive sanctuary. He warned the U.S. may need to take a more aggressive approach.”We still see attempts by terrorist organizations to get into Afghanistan,” Nicholson said. “Do we have the right level of CT [counterterrorism] capability to deal with that?”Of particular concern to U.S. military and intelligence officials is the spread of the Islamic State group, which has sought to establish a sanctuary in Nangarhar province, and a resurgent al-Qaida in Kandahar province. The Taliban have also re-emerged as a threat, briefly seizing the northern city of Kunduz last year while also taking key districts in Helmand province. There are concerns, too, that the Taliban have hopes of retaking their spiritual home in Kandahar.Nicholson assured lawmakers he would not let the U.S. sit idly by.”We need to prevent Kandahar from falling into the hands of the Taliban,” Nicholson said, adding he would “absolutely” recommend using U.S. military force to prevent the Taliban from retaking the provincial capital.

Road accident in nepal ( everyday five people killed and thirty three Injured)
Road accidents in Nepal have killed as many people or even more than the figure claimed by the 10 years of armed conflict. One study reveals that they have taken the lives of about 5,000 people in just five years since the year 2000. Therefore, on average, road accidents claim three lives everyday, 83 lives every month and 1,000 lives every year. Unfortunately, many road accidents are not reported or recorded. Accidents only with significant property damage, serious injury or those leading to disputes and conflict are recorded. On the other hand, if an adult is killed in a road accident, then it will likely bring financial crisis to the family, which has to cope with a severe loss to their livelihood. Other consequences that may follow can be the drop-out of the victim's children from school and, of course, loss of a key role model in their lives. In this connection, it is worth mentioning that the majority of lives claimed by road accidents are of people aged between 15-40 years. This means, the country is losing potentially the most productive people to road accidents.Arun Karki

Three quarters of the hundred or so languages native to Nepal belong to the Tibeto-Burman language family; this includes Nepal Bhasa (Newar) (the original language of Kathmandu), the Tamang, Magar and various Rai and Limbu languages.
However, the official and numerically most important language, Nepali, belongs to the Indo-Aryan (Indic) branch of the Indo-European family, so that Indic languages constitute 79% of the population to Tibeto-Burman’s 18%, even though most languages of both families are spoken by small numbers of people.
The Dravidian languages are represented by Kurux, and the Munda languages of the Austroasiatic family by Santali and Mundari.
The indigenous languages of Nepal that predated the influx of Indic, Tibeto-Burman, and other families barely survive in the Kusunda language, which is nearly extinct today.
Nepal also has at several indigenous village sign languages, Jhankot Sign Language, Jumla Sign Language, and Ghandruk Sign Language, in addition to the Nepali Sign Language designed for national use.

Man jumps off from a hot air balloon without parachute
Pakistani actress Meera has backtracked on her earlier statement that she wished to marry PTI chairman Imran Khan, saying now that he is like “a father to her,” The Express Tribune reported.“I respect Imran Khan Sb a lot as a leader, but I cannot even think of marrying him as there is a big age difference between us,” the actress said while speaking to reporters.“He is like a father to me,” she added. Earlier, Meera had expressed her desire to wed the former cricketer, saying, “Imran Khan is a very good looking man, if he ever asked me to marry him, I would most definitely accept the offer.”Reverting back to her ‘marriage’ with Pakistani-American airline captain Naveed Pervaiz, the actress denied that she married anyone in secret, although she did disclose that she will get married this year, and when she does, she will break the news to everyone. She also added that she has her own identity in the entertainment industry and doesn’t copy anyone, instead other people copy her.
Pranks are supposed to be funny and induce laughter, but some pranks turn tragedies instead of comedies! Here are four such prank videos that were created with an intention to be LOL-worthy, which they surely did, but not for the pranksters!I’m talking about shows similar to the popular “Just for laughs gags” Canadian show, where organized funny pranks are played on the public, professionally produced, and shown as a regular series on a major network.
At long last, it is Hollywood Week: Group Night, the latest installment of the beloved “Hollywood Week” horror franchise that still stars way too many people. Somehow, 108 singers still remain, and they must team up and harmonize and do rudimentary choreography and hone 50 other skills they’ll never use on American Idol ever again. Harry throws down some hot Debbie Allen at them as the show starts: “Y’all need to get real. Y’all got to lay it out!” Before he can pound his cane on the ground and burst into song, though, Jennifer tells them, “Go home. Get some sleep.”We have seen Hollywood Week: Group Night before. There will be no sleep.Right away, there is drama. Shelbie Z. leaves the group she put together, and Poh just up and quits the whole competition. “I’m not ready,” she says, looking every inch the mass-appeal FKA Twigs she yearns to be. I think her sister — who made the top 24 last year and accompanied her to Hollywood — read Mike Albo’s The Underminer and put that strategy to work. Either way, Dalton Rapattoni and Kassy Levels are left high and dry.Jordan Sasser and his topknot team up with Jenna Renae, Jordan Something, and Kory Wheeler, who looks like he should be comparing facial scrubs in a Birchbox Man video. Together they form Team Blue Eyes, all of whom slaughter Bruno Mars’ “Treasure.” They’re through to the next round.
The Philippines, so too are the dances. There are many dances performed in the Philippine Islands such as the popular “Tinikling”, to the exoticized “Pangalay”, to the skill-based interpretation of the “Bangka” and Spanish-tinged “Jota”.
Dance categorizations range from geographic localizationOther less common presentations of Philippine dances have been categorized by societal functions. Philippine dances not only convey the artistry of movement but, are often associated with a life-function such as a wedding, the mimicry of birds, or even the warding of evil spirits. This outlook on dance can be looked at in the following categories., to socialization functions, to dance influences, and to time traveling.

Bahadur Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana in Rome, Italy - 1934
Maharaja Jung Bahadur Rana was a ruler of Nepal and founder of the Rana Dynasty of Nepal. His real name was Bir Narsingh Kunwar but he became famous by the name Jung Bahadur, given to him by Mathebar Thapa, his maternal uncle. During his lifetime, he eliminated the factional fighting at the court, removed his family rivals such as Pandes and Basnyats and paved way for finding of Rana Dynasty, introduced innovations into the bureaucracy and the judiciary, and made efforts to "modernize" Nepal. He remains one of the most important figures in Nepalese history, though modern historians have also blamed Jung Bahadur for setting up the dictatorship that repressed the nation for 104 years from 1903 BS to 2007 BS and left it in a primitive economic condition. Others exclusively blame his nephews, the Shumsher Ranas, for Nepal's dark period of history. Rana rule was marked by tyranny, debauchery, economic exploitation and religious persecution.

No other politician has changed his political colours so rapidly and each time won more recognition and enjoyed better prospects. However, this time as he embarks on a new political party, Baburam Bhattarai may not be as lucky. Bhattarai began his politics parallel to his student life, first in Chandigarh and then at JNU in the decade between the early 70s and the early 80s, as a human rights activist. After working as an urban planning consultant for few years, Bhattarai a PhD from JNU, became part of Nepal’s parliamentary exercise between 1991 and 1996. However, he was soon disillusioned and together with Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, authored a bloody war against the state with the objective to transform Nepal into a republic with the proletariat ruling it.

Its simply amazing to have such a brand behind me now and I´m looking forward to working with them the upcoming season and hopefully as long as I can.

Nepal quake survivor rebuilds his life through physiotherapy galleryThe study is the latest to warn of the risk of another major quake around Nepal’s Gorkha district, near the epicentre of a 7.8-magnitude tremor on 25 April – the worst in Nepal in more than 80 years. It was followed on May 12 by a 7.3-strong aftershock.A study in the same journal warned just five months ago that last year’s tremors had only partially relieved stress on the length of the faultline, and said chances for a big tremor were as high as before.
A fresh earthquake of local magnitude 4.2 hit Siraha district of eastern Nepal at 6:17 (00:17 UTC) on Wednesday. The National Seismological Centre said it was not an aftershock of the magnitude 7.6-earthquake that rattled the nation on April 25 last year. According to the Centre, the epicentre of the quake was located between Arnamalapur and Hakpara villages of Siraha district. As many as 427 aftershocks of magnitude 4 or above were recorded from the April 25 earthquake till January 22.

The U.S. Army Soldiers in Afghanistan are now firing an 84mm, reusable, recoilless shoulder-fired conventional munition able to destroy enemy targets hidden behind rocks, trees and buildings , service officials said.
The weapon, called the Multi-Role Anti-Armor, Anti-Personnel Weapons System, known as the Carl-Gustaf, was ordered by the Army in response to an Operational Needs Statement from Afghanistan seeking to procure a direct fire, man-portable, anti-personnel and light structure weapon able, among other things, to respond to insurgent rocket-propelled grenade, or RPG, fire, said Bhuvanesh Thoguluva, chief of Vehicle Protection, Rockets & Shoulder Fired Weapons Branch, Munition Systems & Technical Directorate, Armament Research Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.
The Carl-Gustaf, which is manufactured by Saab, includes an airburst capability with its High Explosive, or HE, round, Thoguluva said.
“The HE round does have an airburst capability. It is the one that is utilized most often because of its effective range. It uses a mechanical time fuse which is set prior to loading the weapon system,” he said.
Airburst rounds can be pre-programmed to explode in the air at a precise location, thereby maximizing the weapon’s effect against enemy targets hiding, for example, behind a rock, tree or building.
Several Carl Gustaf’s are already in Afghanistan as part of a limited operational assessment, which may indeed result in more deliveries. The Army purchased the weapon by joining with U.S. Special Operations Command in a combined purchase from Saab.
An ailing Sadbhawana Party president Rajendra Mahto today stoutly denied that the Madhesi Morcha, an alliance of four parties of Nepal’s Terai region demanding amendment to the country’s statute, has split.
Mr Mahto’s assertion came in the wake of media reports from Kathmandu that the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, spearheading the over four-month-old protest, had split with Mr Mahto opting for continuing the agitation separately.
Speaking to IANS from his hospital bed in Medanta, in Gurgaon, near New Delhi, where he is recovering from injuries received in a clash with the police at Biratnagar on December 26, Mr Mahto said: “The Madhesi Morcha remains united and shall continue the struggle which it has been waging for the past more than four months.”
“Our struggle is historic and we shall achieve our goal… We are prepared to carry on our agitation for as long as it takes to secure our genuine demands….”
Mr Mahto reiterated the resolve that the planned agitation programme would be carried forward and denied that there was any change advised by him therein as reported in the Nepali media.
